What a book you guys! And what a book to start off my blog. I read this in about 2 solid sittings, in between wrangling a toddler and traveling across the country for a weekend. Just a forewarning to anyone who has stumbled on this post - there will be some spoilers.

Emma Hamm creates a beautifully written young woman named Lorelai - a half elf who is living in a world where magic is being snuffed out by a mortal tyrant. She is coerced into the rebellions movement, and meets new allies and foes along the way.

This book is the definition of a slow burn. There is no spiciness, expect for a kiss between the MC and the FMC in the middle of the book. I usually read books that goes straight to the hot stuff, but this was a really refreshing read. I thoroughly enjoyed the development between the characters, and unlike other romance novels in this Kindle Unlimited era, we get to really know the Male Lead.

Speaking of which - everyone deserves an Abraxas. He is a very hot dragon shifter. Emma doesn’t really focus on this shifter aspect though, and really dives in deep into who Abraxas is. We get a background into his interactions with the Tyrant, as well as Lorelai (which I enjoyed). The amount of feels I felt when Abraxas was faced with the decision to either save his love, or the future of his kind - it almost brought me to tears in the middle of the airport.

Lorelai is by far one of my favorite female characters that I’ve read in a while - and I read almost 2 books a week when work is slow. Emma took a lot of thought into really mapping her characters, and it pays off with Lorelai. She is headstrong, and skilled in fighting in a realistic way, but at the same time has a soft underbelly that makes you feel for her pain as well. She comes off as a normal girl, who has went through so much who we get to meet at a crossroad in her life.

I will be reading her next book Bright Heart this week, and will be updating as such.
